WHAT DO THE “LETTERS” MEAN?
Here is a quick overview…….
The “F” stands for the Big Bike with the Big Engine, so you know that all models that begin with “F” have the big motors, 80 to 110 cubic inches or 1340 to 1800 CC’s. The “L” stands for a big fat front tire. The next letter(s) denotes the frame…
“D” indicates a Dyna™ frame (with rubber mounted motor) “ST” signifies a Softail® frame “HT” is used for the “Highway Touring” frame “FXD” would be a big engine Dyna frame with a skinny tire The next letter(s) indicates the model bike within the frame family…
“F” would signify “Fat Boy®” “WG” denotes “Wide Glide®”, etc. So… an FLSTF would be a big engine, fat front tire, Softail frame, Fat Boy model. A FXDWG would be a big engined, skinny front tire, Dyna frame, Wide Glide model. And an FLHTCUI is a big engine, fat front tire, highway touring, Ultra Classic® model with fuel injection (the “I” on the end signifies Fuel Injection). All the models that begin with an “X” are Sportster® Motorcycles. Sportster models have 883 or 1200 CC's The VRSC means it is a V-ROD. The V-ROD® models have 1130 or 1250 CC's
